William Steinmetz, DVM

Dr. William Steinmetz

Dr. Steinmetz helped form the Sacramento Valley Veterinary Medical Association in the early 1950’s. He served in all positions on the Executive Board before retiring many times. We were even fortunate enough to have Dr. Steinmetz serve as our Treasurer once again in 1997 for several years. Dr. Steinmetz was also the President of CVMA in 1964-65 and honored by CVMA and SVVMA as a Distinguished Life Member. In 1966, Dr. Steinmetz received CVMA’s “Veterinarian of the Year” award for his dedicated service and leadership in the veterinary profession. He was responsible for mentoring veterinarians and preparing them for private practice and actively growing organized veterinary medicine. Dr. Steinmetz owned so many practices in the Sacramento area that he was once told that he was not getting any more retirement parties because he already had so many and enjoyed working so much, he could never really leave. Dr. Steinmetz earned his veterinary degree from Washington State University and became a veterinarian in 1939 and actively began practicing in California.
